Pumps

In order to circulate the water in the cooling system, the natural convection is not enough. Therefore, a circulating pump is required in the system. In principle, the pumps offered by us are centrifugal pumps. Centrifugal pumps have the advantage of a very low to inaudible work sound as well as a long lifespan. Centrifugal pumps are not capable themselves of sucking in the cooling medium. Therefore, the cooling medium needs to flow into the pump by itself when filling the system (for example by using a water reservoir).

The lower price-segment standard pumps are run with 230V. Together with the Eheim company aqua computer in 2003 developed the first 12V-centrifugal pump specifically for the use in the PC area. This pump has an extremely good synchronous run and offers diverse control possibilities as well as a ventilation program.

The performance of the pump is virtually insignificant contrary to the often predominating opinion. In a normal cooling system, even a powerful Eheim 1250 only achieves a rate of flow of approximately 50 l/h. The smaller pumps offered reach approximately 30-40 l/h. We recommend the use of the small Eheim 1046 or the aquastream-pump. Larger pumps are only of advantage, if the hose length of the system is very long (>5m). Larger pumps also have the disadvantage of a bigger heat contribution into the system (power loss).
Since the motors of the radial pumps emit a magnetic field, we recommend the application of our FMJ-casing. The casing protects the harddrive disks and data lines from the irradiation of electromagnetic fields.

In order to be able to run the pumps virtually noiseless, they must be decoupled from the casing. For this, we offer a corresponding decoupling-set made from a soft rubber mixture.

Please notice that particular adapters are required for the application of the plug&cool-connectors with these pumps.

In contrast to previous solutions, this pump is a true 12V-pump - a higher voltage is not created. The power-demand lies <5W, typically 4.5W.
The performance of the pump is at least identical to the known Eheim 1046, the quietness could even still be improved by the use of a micro controller and costly regulation electronics.

The pump offers further functions and advantages:

1. Correctly operated, the pump generates a speedometer signal which can be connected to the CPU fan connection. With a failure of the pump or an error, the bios can shut-down the PC.

2. The pump implements a deaeration program which is activated by a jumper on the circuit board or by the aquaero. The filling of the system is simplified by this.

3. The pump possesses an interface for the aquaero. All important data (operating mode, electric power consumption, voltage) can be monitored with the aquaero. Moreover, the aquastream-pump can be supplied with the required power with this connection cable. The circuit board can be attached to the aquaero circuit board, which in this case will not need a 3 1/2" bay.

4. Status- and error-LEDs show the condition of the pump. The error-LED can inform about errors via flash-codes.

5. The pump possesses an emergency program for undervoltage. A correct operation thus is also possible with PSUs that supply low voltage, down to approximately 10.5V.

6. The casing was not enlarged, it is identical to the 1046 and fits into our known aquabay and 1046-FMJ-case.

7. Important: The pump is still useable as a submersible pump!

8. Since revision 3.0 it is possible to monitor and control two pumps via the aquaero with a special connecting-cable.

The aquastream-control-panel fits into a 3 1/2" bay and is produced as always out of brushed stainless steel. To fill the system, we include a small adapter for the ATX-plug. With this adapter the power supply unit can be started without the remaining hardware.
